Madrid was scene for the Congress and
Exhibition Global AIS 2006, where up to date concepts about aeronautical
technologies applied to AIS data were on show.
Radiocom, Inc. participated in all conferences and meetings.
An extract from a post Congress message by Mr. Ken Reid who is Chairman AIS
Team, Head of AEM, EUROCONTROL follows:
"...from the substantial feedback that we have received, it appears that the
Congress achieved its objectives and it was a great success. The messages
were clearly expressed due to the excellence of the Speakers and the
Moderators.
As for statistics: 525 people were registered coming from 85 States. A truly
global event and one that speaks about the commitment that is the hallmark
of the AIS community. Moreover given the substantial costs associated with
travel for many, it shows that Management now recognizes the critical nature
of aeronautical information and the need for change.
Global AIS Congress was a successful and enjoyable event; by all accounts it
provided an excellent platform for networking, one of the main objectives of
the event.
What now? There will be little point in bringing the AIS community together
unless progress is made. Yes, of course the Congress is a start but what
tangible steps are planned?
The first step is that the “Conclusions and Recommendations” as modified
from the Congress floor and agreed by all are available on EUROCONTROL web
site. Likewise all the presentations can be downloaded from:
www.eurocontrol.int/aim
Secondly
and as reported in Madrid, the Planning group will reconvene in late August
to develop, agree and then publish the Congress Report.
The Conclusions and
recommendations will be those posted on the web site as also the discursive
material that explains why/how these recommendations came about. Once
developed, it is intended that the report will be submitted to ICAO,
Montreal and will be made publicly available on www.eurocontrol.int/aim for
information and use.
Thirdly, Eurocontrol main conference room, called Europa, has been reserved
on 28-29th November 2006 for the “AIM Workshop”. It is intended to base the
Workshop on the six appropriate enabling objectives. A white paper on each
will be developed to form the basis of discussion and each will be developed
by a Sub-group of the whole. To make the process manageable and to make
progress it is intended to limit participation to 60 from Europe and invite
30 representatives from non-European States.
Fourthly, the “Mini Congress”. Eurocontrol has reserved the 220 seat Europa
Room for provisionally 26-28th June 2007, the week after the Paris Air Show.
Lastly, a decision has been taken to devote the Autumn edition of the
Eurocontrol House Journal “Skyway” to AIS/AIM.
In conclusion, AIS through the Global AIS Congress had a successful start to
implementing change, but now the real work starts. Europe looks forward to
working with global colleagues and to share experiences; for the experience
of Madrid has shown that when the AIS community comes together things
happen."
